A career financial services and insurance professional, Mr. Costello has owned and sold two different financial-related businesses in Rochester. He is well known and well regarded for his expertise in working with individuals and closely held businesses. Working with families, his expertise includes addressing the needs of households with children with special needs and working with individuals to create safe, predictable income streams that their children cannot outlive. In the business arena, his area of expertise is succession planning and the design of key employee retention programs.
For nine years, he served as General Agent of MassMutual-Rochester, working under the flag of Financial Architects, where he was responsible for turning around this under-performing MassMutual general agency with offices in Rochester, Williamsville and various satellite locations in Western New York. His core responsibilities included driving strategic vision, structure and growth of the organization.
Earlier in his career, at AXA Distributors he served as Senior Vice President in charge of life insurance distribution. Before that, he was Managing Director and Assistant Managing Director at AXA. In this role, Mr. Costello was responsible for orchestrating the integration of Advest, Inc., into the AXA family of companies. Earlier, while at MONY as Managing Director for the Mid-Atlantic States territory for more than five years, Mr. Costello was responsible for working with the company’s top 10 percent of advisors to educate clients on the value of good financial planning as the key to developing wealth. He is credited with consistently helping clients protect what matters most as well as embedding in the organization the “Trusted Advisor” concept.
In addition to his experience in financial services, he is a former principal and co-owner of a very successful manufacturing business in the specialty beverage industry where he and his partners pioneered improved production equipment used in the canning of specialty drinks. For a brief period in the late nineties, Mr. Costello was Vice President of Sales for a nationally ranked database marketing company where he was credited with more than tripling sales, taking the organization from $8M to $25M.
Very early on, Mr. Costello served as Managing Director of Prudential Financial in the Baltimore, MD/Hudson Valley, NY area, where from 1994 to 1997 he managed a team comprised of the top 10 percent of advisors across a geographically dispersed territory. From 1988-1994 he served as Sales Manager for the Rochester territory. He began his career as a Million Dollar Roundtable associate at Prudential Preferred.
